Suitable dates for visits:- The South-West of England — Somerset, Devon and Cornwall — are good as early as April for spring flowering shrubs and bulbs. Rhododendrons, Clematis montana and bulbs are good in May particularly in the acid soils of the Lake District — Cumbria — and Yorkshire. The peak blooming time for the herbacious border is late May and June. Main season roses are at their best at the end of June and early July. Late July and August tend to be rather “green” months but the herbacious borders are full of late summer colour in September and the beginning of October. Autumnal colour continues through October.
